Stylish and Practical Gift Ideas for her

What would you use it for?
by Miriam Schulman, @schulmanArt
Practical yet Beautiful Gift Idea For Art and Music Lovers
I just got these extra large zippered pouches I designed back from the printer yesterday. I was so pleased with the quality of the printing, the roomy inner hidden pocket and the waterproof lining. There are so many people in my life that I want to give these to that I hope I have enough left over to sell! My daughter, the ultimate teenage test marketer, grabbed one right away. What are you going to use it for? Well, she said, thinking more about how cool it looked then anything else... I can fit some spiral notebooks in here, and also my cello music. Then we both thought my mother would want one because she reads poetry at nursing homes and assisted living facilities. She could store her poetry in one. I thought I should probably keep one for myself, because in addition to my art making, I also love to knit and this would be a practical and pretty way to store my unfinished project along with the pattern directions. I also thought I may want to use this for a sketchbook and keep the pencils in the extra storage compartment. The 11x14" size has plenty of room for my larger sketch books. What would you use it for?

This peacock portfolio is versatile for the student, teacher or artist. Anyone who needs to carry around a sketchpad, sheet music or notebooks will appreciate this stylish waterproof case. The hidden inner compartment is great for money, a smart phone or more. This is a great idea for students to use in between classes instead of carrying their full backpack to stash some essentials. Another use for this stylish organizer is as an extra large cosmetic bag.

Zippered fabric bags make a great secret Santa gift idea for the artsy women in your life. Printed on both sides with a peacock and pink flowers with piano music, these zippered bags are designed to fit essential makeup gear, giving it maximum points for practicality when carrying around your lip gloss, and nail polish. This is also a great bag to stash an unfinished knitting project.

* Made from durable 600d polyester fabric
* Zippered closure for easy access
* Zippered hidden interior compartment (perfect for smart phone, or pencils!)
* Double sided printing
* Approx. Dimensions: 14" width x 11" height
* Can fit 500 sheets of A4 paper

If you are looking for a gift for a music teacher, student or music lover this is the perfect gift for her. The musical art on the cosmetic bag will be the secret Santa gift, Channukah gift or stocking stuffer that she will think of you every time she uses it!

Art does not have to match the Sofa

The Forest is my Home
by Miriam Schulman, @schulmanArt

decorating Inspiration using Mixed Media Collage art
Proving that art does not have to match the sofa, look how sophisticated the orange tree art looks over a blue sofa. The cool blue colors of the room decorated by Ashley Whittaker contrast with the bright artwork. This artwork was digitally added to the room view to give you inspiration for how this art would look in your home. The original photo appeared in the September 2012 issue of House Beautiful.

The walls in this room are lacquered a cool gray. you can get the "Stonington Gray" paint for your home from Benjamin Moore. The sparkly surfaces add glamour to the room - notice the metallic accents of the silver lamps. I also found silver mosaic tile lamps on etsy by ledgan1.

Statement art that makes a conversation piece!
Title: The Forest is my Home
Size: 24x30" gallery wrapped canvas, Deep 1-1/2 inch sides painted black
The gallery wrapped canvas will save you money on framing since it is wired and ready to hang right on your wall.

Sides painted to match front, no framing required! art pops off walls!
This original tree painting is a textured tapestry of tangerine tango- a reddish orange, chartreuse green and violet purple. The landscape mixed media collage is hand crafted with piano sheet music art papers and paint. The yellow and orange forest floor contrasts with the solid vertical shapes of the trees. This tree wall art has painted deep gallery wrapped sides and is wired and ready to hang without a frame. The artwork will pop off the walls with the contemporary canvas, You will get enjoyment every time you look at this abstract tree art as it completes your home decor and raises the mood of everyone in the room. Evoking the deep forests where native oak trees lived before time began, this timeless art fits both into modern and contemporary decor. When choosing the best artwork for your space, you will find that these bright and happy hues are easy to incorporate with your existing interior design. Whether you are a musician or a tree hugger you will love this playful mixed media collage tree art on canvas.

A Colorful Park Avenue Apartment

Getting the Look for Less!
by Miriam Schulman, @schulmanArt
photo credit: johnny valiant for House Beautifu, with peacock artwork by Schulman
Interior designer Christina Murphy created a bright and modern living room in a Park Avenue apartment. To keep this classic prewar apartment in New York from feeling frumpy, designer Christina Murphy chose a vibrant, modern color palette. "Punches of color keep a room feeling youthful and engaging," she says. To keep the room from getting too crazy, the sofa, and book shelves are all white. A herringbone pattern hand-painted by Christopher Rollinson gives the living room its "wow" factor." You can get this look yourself by using chevron printed fabric and a staple gun. I found chevron fabric on etsy available by the yard. (check out the treasury below for all etsy resources mentioned in this blog post) As the designer says, "In an important room like your living room, shelves should be a little more styled. The Park avenue apartment has a love seat by Lee Industries but I found a faux leather love seat by metrosofa that is long on style.

Peacock, 36x36"
Above the sofa hangs a painting by Miriam Schulman which has been digitally added to this room inspiration to show you how this artwork would look in your home. The wall lamps here are from Circa Lighting. On etsy, I liked a few versions: GoodlookinVintage  has a very modern retro look - but I think they only have one since it is vintage. If you need a pair, go to IndustrialRewind  who has custom lighting. You would sopend a fortune for the antique English chair in Clarence House Fleuret Jasper pictured above. To get the same cozy seating area with a bright pop of color ModTiques has a mid-century chair in chartreuse green. To complete the coziness, add a white fringe blanket by CricketsHome and ikat pillows by BerdelHome.

Beguiling Begonias, watercolor by Miriam Schulman
An orange floor pillow completes the scene-- so many to choose from but I liked the floor cushion by itsonetwothree for its scale. When investing in art, why not show off the art with picture lighting? This vintage picture light by 3sisterstreasures is chartreuse green- perfect to complement the peacock art. In an upscale apartment you expect fresh flowers on the table, to enjoy flowers all year round, perhaps an original watercolor painting of begonias?

Now for the art: Looking for dramatic peacock decor in modern bright chartreuse and teal blue? This extra large artwork is created on a square oversized canvas that measures 3x3' (36x36"). If you are looking for a large painting to make a dramatic statement over the mantelpiece, the sofa or in a foyer, this peacock art will enhance your home decor. Another great decorating idea is to put this huge painting in a dining room over the banquet or over a bed. Wherever you decide to display the peacock art the artwork will give you pleasure throughout the years.

Title: Peacock Pootinella
Size: 36x36" Three by Three FEET gallery wrapped Canvas, 3/4" profile
Colors: bright chartreuse yellow green gold, teal blue, sapphire, yellow, orange
Media: Gallery Wrapped Canvas-no glass required for framing, comes pre-stretched and ships flat

You can get similar style on esty without the Park Avenue price tags. Check out all these stylish finds spotted today!

Mixing Bright Painting with Earth Tones

Potted Peacock
by Miriam Schulman, @schulmanArt

earth tone decorating ideas
Schulman's peacock artwork in a Kathryn M. Ireland decorated room, sofas and chairs by George Smith
You can marry bright colors in artwork with a room grounded with earth tones. In this Kathryn M. Ireland decorated room, plump seating in white and terracotta with earthen tiles form the rustic backdrop. The peacock painting works in this room because of the terracotta clay pots in the painting pulls the oranges together. The bright blues, reds and pink harmonize with the other colors with a southwestern vibe. This painting is as big as it looks in the photo as it is three feet wide and tall. This will make a truly dramatic focal point for any room you choose to hang it in.

More Notes on Peacock Artwork:
Looking for dramatic peacock wall decor in modern bright chartreuse, orange and teal blue? This extra large artwork is created on a square oversized canvas that measures 3x3' (36x36"). This peacock struts in front of three terracotta planters with bright orange-red and pink flowers.

Embrace his Masculine Side in the Bedroom

Decorating For Him
by Miriam Schulman, @schulmanArt

tree art for a masculine bedroom
Masculine Bedroom with touches of vibrant color
Decorating Notes:
Whether you are decorating a room for a bachelor or a couple it is important to keep the man happy. For a happy marriage, keep the husband happy and everything else will fall into place. Without hanging a moose head over the bed, you can still embrace masculine touches without sacrificing style.

Color Notes:
In a masculine palette you want to ground the room with black and earth tones. In this decorating scheme, the black and white striped rug anchors the room and allows for more vibrant touches and chartreuse green and orange.  The tree art pulls the whole room together in an interesting way.
Pantone Fall 2012 colors: French Roast, Honey Gold, Chartreuse, Tangerine Tango
Original Tree Art, "Funky Forest" by Miriam Schulman
Art Notes:
Men who like the outdoors will appreciate a landscape painting or an abstract tree art. Men and boys of all ages are attracted to my collage art. They especially like the musical notes ( if they are into music, and who isn't into music?!)
leopard prints add subtle sexiness

The leopard print adds a bit of sexiness perfect for the bedroom but equally at home in a global chic living room. This original mixed media collage tree pictures an abstract landscape with bare trees in a forest lit up by the exuberant red with a funky leopard print on the forest floor.
Piano Sheet Music Make the Bark of the trees
The collage elements are torn pieces of painted pieces of sheet music as well as watercolor papers.

The painted piano sheet music represents the bark of birch trees. This stunning large wall art will look great with many decorating schemes. Dominant colors in this artwork are orange, red and brown with touches of chartreuse green and honey gold.
Gallery Wrapped Canvas with Deep Sides, no framing required!

America's Favorite Color for Dining Rooms

Dream of Green
by Miriam Schulman, @schulmanArt
Tree art in a breakfast nook
Decorating Notes:
According to House Beautiful September 2012 issue, America's favorite color choice for dining rooms is green! So don't be afraid to use this bold color in dining or kitchen areas because you love it and everyone else will too!

Dominate colors in the tree art
Color Notes:
Bright chartreuse is in the Pantone fall color report and different versions of this fun lively green apple color have been in fashion for quite some time. Don't worry about getting bored with it. This color is here to stay.

To make it fresh and modern pair it with a muted violet like Rhapsody and a warm yellow like honey gold. You can find all of these colors in the painting. The easiest way to reinvigorate your space is with an original piece of artwork. You will find all these colors in the Tree artwork, "Beautiful Bark".

Fun, colorful tree art for any room that needs color!
Art Notes:
Original mixed media collage tree art created by New York artist Schulman depicts an abstract landscape with bare trees in a chartreuse green forest with a funky purple zebra print on the forest floor. The collage elements are torn pieces of painted pieces of sheet music as well as torn watercolor paintings. The painted piano sheet music represents the bark of trees. This stunning large wall art will look great with many decorating schemes. Dominant colors in this artwork are chartreuse green, violet-blue purple, honey yellow, and a purple zebra print

Size: 24x30" gallery wrapped canvas - 1 7/8" sides painted black
Framing: wired and ready to hang
colors: chartreuse green, violet-blue, honey yellow, purple zebra print
Musical Art, fantastic art to
decorate the home of a music lover!

Fall for Sunflower Colors in a Modern Decorating Scheme

Not Afraid of Color
by Miriam Schulman, @schulmanArt
Sunflower Art can be Fresh and Modern! (original photo by Simon Upton)
Decorating Notes:
Designer Ann Getty is not afraid of color. In this study's foyer, a vintage table is topped by two bright Olympian blue lamps completed with shades the rich color of French Roast. Ann Getty used chartreuse green throughout this San Francisco home, but here the green only resides in the fern plants and the artwork.

Displaying the sunflower artwork two over two on top of dark walls give the art an appearance of a window looking out onto a garden. The walls are upholstered in cotton by Etro and the rug is by AM collections.

Pantone Fall 2012 Colors used in
painting and decorating: French Roast,
Honey Gold, Bright Charteuse and Olympian Blue
Color Notes:
Pantone is the industry's leader in analyzing color trends. Four of their picks for fall 2012 include bright chartreuse, Olympian blue, honey gold and French roast. Bright chartreuse is a vivid yellow-green, and reminiscent of bright green foliage which provides a perfect accent to every color in the palette. Rich and robust, "French roast" is a tasteful, sophisticated hue that is a great alternative to black and charcoal. Olympian blue is a brighter version of navy or a patriotic blue. Honey Gold is a mellow, burnished yellow, suggests the soft-muted tones of sunlight during the fall season.
