The Cedar Walton Quartet Comes to Dizzy’s

Now playing at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola!
If you are a jazz fan, you must go to Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola in New York City. Part of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Dizzy’s attracts some of the best jazz musicians of our time. To get the full experience, arrive at the club around 6pm (when the elevators to the 2nd floor start running) so that you can be one of the first in line and have your choice of seats, although there isn’t a bad seat in the house. Eat dinner before the concert, which doesn’t start until 7:30. Enjoy Dizzy’s very good (though modestly portioned) food and the great view over Central Park as the sun sets. Located at Columbus Circle, the jazz club borders the park and has a clear view across to buildings on the East Side.
For those who prefer a later show, there is another concert at 9:30pm, and on some nights, there is a late night session at 11 or 11:30pm.
Right now (August 7-12), the Cedar Walton Quartet is playing at this charming club. The quartet consists of Cedar Walton (piano), Vincent Herring (saxophone), David Williams (bass) and Willie Jones III (drums). At the beginning of his career, Walton played with many acclaimed jazz musicians, including Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Richie Powell and John Coltrane. Now in his late-70s and a revered jazz pianist himself, Walton leads a quartet at one of the best jazz clubs in NYC.
If you can’t get to the show this week, you have another chance! Later this month (August 14-19), the Cedar Walton Quartet returns to Dizzy’s as a quintet with Steve Turre (trombone).
