Red Bird...inspired by a synthesis of Ancient Chinese Pottery and Modern Colors

How do I get my ideas?
by Miriam Schulman

Bird Painting, Floral Tree Painting Triptych, Modern Abstract Art

Two very different sources inspired this artwork. The bird on a flowering branch motif was taken from ancient chinese pottery. The colors however were taken from fall paint colors by Pottery Barn. Here I took the bright "yellow highlighter" the drama of "million dollar red" and subdues it with "pine grove" for the leaves. These paint colors are available from Benjamin Moore. The colors used in the painting are carefully mixed archival acrylic paint and touches of glamorous copper has been added in the details. Check out the listing to see this art as viewed in several decorating stories.

Later, I decided that the bird was "singing" and added a collage of piano sheet music on the canvas. The pieces were painted with watercolor and carefully applied.
